Where to stay?

Cartagena is a small city where you can go anywhere by foot. We recommend you stay in the old walled city (red circle on the map above). There are plenty of Airbnb and hotels.

When to arrive and how long shoud I stay?

We recommend arriving a few days before to accommodate the jetlag if you fly from far. We are also planning some activities to do together before the big day!

You can stay in the city before the wedding and then travel to other places if you have vacation time. If it is your first time in Colombia, we suggest you stay in Colombia for 2 or 3 weeks

Preparation before departure?

A valid passport, a plane ticket (round trip), clothes for all types of weather, and of course practice your dance skills. For more detailed information check the following link:

Do I need a VISA?

The majority of visitors from Europe and the US are granted a 3-month tourist visa. However, you should make sure that you can prove that you’ll be leaving the country after this period (i.e. have plane tickets). If you plan on staying longer, you can apply for a visa extension at the immigration office, which has offices in most major cities.

Do I need vaccines?

No vaccine is mandatory to enter the country. Some vaccines (yellow fever ...) can be mandatory or strongly recommended if you are planning to visit some places like the Amazon, specific natural parks, or if you come from some countries. Below are some websites where you can find more information.

Should I bring the kids?

We let you decide on that one. We are planning on having babysitters during the event. Colombia is a kids-friendly country!

Do I need to get some local currency in cash before the flight?

You can exchange some currency at the airport but the rate might be high. We suggest you to exchange with your bank some cash before the trip and then withdraw at an ATM in the city.

How do I get to the old city from the airport?

There are taxis at the airport (about $5 - 20 minutes)

What budget should I anticipate?

Cartagena is one of the most expensive cities in Colombia, but the cost is still very reasonable for the quality you will find. Depending on your budget, an Airbnb will start around $30-40 per night per person. Food is usually $10-15 for a restaurant and $3-5 for traditional street food. Outside of Cartagena, you will find cheaper places to stay.

What is the weather?

During this period weather will be tropical with a chance of rain in Cartagena. Other places in Colombia have different weather.

Beach in Cartagena?

The nice places to go are the Islands close by. We don't recommend the beach in Cartagena

Is it safe?

Cartagena is a safe city. Most of the country is safe. Stealing and fraud are the most common crimes. Always have a look at your stuff, and avoid expensive jewelry in the street.

Should I rent a car?

In Cartagena, everything is within walking distance.

Do I need an adapter for my phone?

Colombia uses the same type of outlet as USA. Electricity is 110V/60Hz.

So you need an adapter if you have European-type devices.

I am planning to stay in Colombia for a few weeks, what do you suggest to do outside of Cartagena ?

Colombia is a wonderful country with a variety of things to do and places to visit (Bogota, Medellin, coffee areas in Pereira, and Armenia ...). Which cities to select and how long in each will depend on what you like to do and how long you have.

We will give you more information later but in the meantime, you can have a look at the website below.
